Women in the Workplace with Indra Nooyi

Today’s Dangerous Women: Leading Onward episode features one of the world’s most admired and accomplished women leaders. Indra Nooyi is the former CEO of PepsiCo and the author of a new best-selling memoir, My Life In Full. Her journey from a close knit Indian family to the top job at one of America’s iconic companies is a compelling, powerful story of courage, hard work and lessons learned.

The first woman of color and immigrant to run a Fortune 50 company — and one of the foremost strategic thinkers of our time — she transformed PepsiCo with a unique vision, a vigorous pursuit of excellence, and a deep sense of purpose.

“People might look at me and say, ‘you had it all.’ But what people don’t know behind the scenes is how I was able to do it all,” she tells me. She points to a supportive family, mentors who played a gigantic role in her ascension to the top. She also barely sleeps and says she didn’t have much balance in her life. “It just meant I juggled more deftly. Being a CEO is three full-time jobs, being an executive is a full-time job, being a mother is a full-time job, being a daughter, a wife, are all full-time jobs.”

Indra also shares her insights on why the economy today needs women, and what we can do to achieve that goal. She also explains why she believes that diversity is not just good for business but also good for society as a whole.

“The time has come for us to stop talking about what can be done…the time has come for action.”
