TEDWomen Presents: Leading Women on Change, Work, Rights, the Future and JOY!

September 17, 2022

Many of you have inquired about TEDWomen and the plans for this year. I’m happy to get those inquiries and grateful for the global community of women and men who have attended before. And I'm excited to invite you to join the community again, or register for your first TEDWomen experience.

After a very successful in-person convening in December 2021, with more than 800 participants from some two dozen countries and many U.S. states, we are going virtual this year for a couple of good reasons — to allow for some flexibility in our programming and to take the learnings from 12 years of TEDWomen, in-person and virtual convenings, to evolve our plans for TEDW2023 and beyond.

Consider joining us for a unique experience — a week-long virtual TEDWomen Presents: Leading Women on Change, Work, Rights, the Future and JOY!

Think of this year as an online festival of ideas with interviews and conversations with iconic women on these five themes: change, work, rights, joy and the future.

As with all TED conferences, there will also be opportunities to participate in interactive workshops, virtual social gatherings, and a new feature this year — film screenings selected by Sundance Film Festival curators! All this each day plus other special surprises — all from the comfort of your home or wherever you are.

We have a special price for early supporters, available to you as newsletter readers, if you apply by Tuesday, September 20 (or until sold out).

Each day of the week will be centered on a unique theme, with interviews and conversations on the future of work, the challenges of change, the current struggles to secure and sustain rights, and the importance of finding JOY!

Among the leading women we will hear from...

Astrophysicist Dr. Heidi Hammel who worked on the James Webb Telescope Project. We’ll see some of the stunning photographs that are opening up new ideas about extraterrestrial life and the future of space exploration. On Wednesday Oct. 26, Ireland’s first woman president and current Chair of the Elders, Mary Robinson will be in conversation with Time Magazine 100 youth climate activist Ugandan Vanessa Nakate on the theme of environmental rights, followed by a ‘live’ conversation with actor and activist Jane Fonda. Who better to share what brings her joy than the immensely talented Angélique Kidjo? She'll be in a conversation with Al Jazeera’s Femi Oke. More featured speakers will be announced over the next few weeks.

With a mix of live and on-demand programming throughout the week elevating the ideas of women and our allies, TEDWomen Presents hopes to elevate the work of leading women and to continue to strengthen the connections in the TEDWomen global community. And there will also be a big announcement about what's next for TEDWomen!

I hope you will join us!

more people care about the climate crisis than you think

A slew of new studies have found that the vast majority of the human population — 80 to 89% — want governments to do more about the climate crisis.

The answer surprised me — and I have a feeling it might surprise you, too.
